Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas was admitted to the hospital on Friday with an infection, ABC News reports.

Thomas was sent to Washington D.C.’s Sibley Memorial Hospital after experiencing flu-like symptoms, per spokesperson Patricia McCabe, and was later diagnosed with an infection. The 73-year-old is now taking intravenous antibiotics.

“His symptoms are abating, he is resting comfortably, and he expects to be released from the hospital in a day or two,” McCabe said, per the outlet. “Justice Thomas will participate in the consideration and discussion of any cases for which he is not present on the basis of the briefs, transcripts and audio of the oral arguments.”

Thomas, who is the second-oldest justice on the Supreme Court and is the most senior conservative, has received his COVID-19 booster, per the court. He will not be reconvening with court on Monday at 10 a.m. when it meets next. Next week will see the Senate Judiciary Committee partake in confirmation hearings for Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson, who is the first Black woman ever nominated to the court. Ketanji would replace Justice Stephen Breyer, who is expected to retire in June.
