A North Carolina dog that was recently abandoned at an animal shelter because his owners thought he was gay has found a new home.

As reported by TMZ, Stanly County Animal Protective Services took to Facebook on Tuesday to announce that the dog, a male of either four or five years named Fezco, was adopted.

“We would like to give a special thank you to Greater Charlotte SPCA for taking Fezco into their rescue!” the post read. “Thankfully, they had a previous adopter step up, and Fezco has been ADOPTED!!! Thank you GCSPCA for making this possible!”

TMZ notes that Fezco was adopted by a gay couple from North Carolina, Steve Nichols and his longtime partner John. Fezco’s new owners told the outlet they welcomed the dog into their home after hearing the story about him getting ditched by his former owners because they thought he was gay.

The couple revealed they’ve bonded with Fezco over the discrimination they’ve faced in their own lives, and have decided to rename him after a legend in the LGBTQ community, Irish poet and playwright Oscar Wilde.

Earlier this week, Fezco was dropped off at the Stanly County Animal Protective Services, a shelter in Albemarle, after his owners saw him humping another male dog.
