He may be a man of many memes, but at the end of the day, 50 Cent is for the people. The rapper and entrepreneur revealed on Thursday that Kashmere High School senior Kennedy Nelms was awarded $48,000 through his G-Star program to continue her studies for four years at the University of Texas at Austin.

Fif shared an image of the young scholar and her big check on his Instagram.

“My G Stars are no joke, Kennedy from Kashmere HS was just awarded a four year scholarship to the University of Texas!” the rapper wrote. “I’m So proud of these kids. H TOWN you know the vibes she gonna get to the bread. GLG🚦GreenLightGang.”

50 launched his G-Star program in May 2021 in partnership with the Houston Independent School, Horizon United, and his G-Unity Foundation in order to give students from lower-income areas the opportunity to pursue the careers of their dreams and get a college education.

Kennedy is one of 75 high school students inducted into the G-Star program in September. The students are tasked with completing a 12-week after-school business course and coming up with a business pitch that is later judged by 50 Cent and other community leaders. The winners receive a grant to help kickstart their company as well.

When the program was first launched, 50 spoke on a panel with Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner about the importance of instilling solid entrepreneurial skills in students early on.

“These opportunities are huge opportunities that I didn’t have,” he said. “Being able to provide that in the early stages, I think it changes the direction and the choices that they will make. It prevents them from making some of the mistakes that I made.”
