Amy Schumer Reveals Alec Baldwin ‘Rust’ Joke She Was Told Not to Say at Oscars

Amy Schumer performed a stand-up set at the Mirage Theater in Las Vegas over the weekend and revisited the overly-discussed incident involving Will Smith and Chris Rock at the Oscars late last month, per Deadline.

“I was kind of feeling myself…and then all of a sudden, Ali was making his way up. And it was just a fucking bummer,” Schumer said of Smith, whom she referred to as Ali, a reference to his portrayal of Muhammad Ali in the 2001 biopic. “All I can say is that it was really sad, and I think it says so much about toxic masculinity.”

“It was really upsetting, but I think the best way to comfort ourselves would be for me to say the Oscar jokes that I wasn’t allowed to say on TV,” she continued.

Schumer rattled off a few jokes about Joe Rogan and also on James Franco’s sexual misconduct allegations before delivering a quip about the fatal shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of Rust last year. “Don’t Look Up is the name of a movie? More like don’t look down the barrel of Alec Baldwin’s shotgun,” she said, adding, “I wasn’t allowed to say any of that, but you can just come up and [slap] someone.”

Hutchins’ husband Matthew filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Baldwin and the production company behind the film, claiming his wife would have still been alive if it weren’t for the actor’s negligence and the crew cutting corners on safety procedures.

Days after the Oscars slap, Schumer shared on Instagram that she still felt “triggered and traumatized” by the encounter, but also praised Rock for how he handled the unusual circumstance. “I think we can all agree that the best way to unpack what happened is to stream my series @lifeandbethhulu and see me on tour this fall,” she jokingly started the post.

“But for real. Still triggered and traumatized. I love my friend @chrisrock and believe he handled it like a pro. Stayed up there and gave an Oscar to his friend @questlove and the whole thing was so disturbing,” she continued. “I’m still in shock and stunned and sad. Im proud of myself and my cohosts. But yeah. Waiting for this sickening feeling to go away from what we all witnessed.”
