J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot has partnered with Mattel Films and Warner Bros. to produce a live-action movie adaptation of the popular toy brand Hot Wheels, Variety reports.

A press release from Mattel and Warner Bros. didn’t delve into plot details since the adaptation is presumably in its early stages. It does, however, mention the project will “showcase some of the world’s hottest and sleekest cars, monster trucks and motorcycles.”

Since being introduced in 1968, Hot Wheels has become the No. 1 selling toy in the world with over 8 billion vehicles sold, according to The NPD Group/Retail Tracking Service.

“As the global leader in car culture, Hot Wheels has been igniting the challenger spirit in auto enthusiasts for generations,” Mattel Films executive producer Robbie Brenner said. “Fans of all ages are now in for the ride of their lives with the incredible talent of J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot joining us alongside Warner Bros. Pictures to transform Hot Wheels’ legendary IP into a thrilling story for the big screen.”

Hot Wheels becomes the latest Mattel property to get adapted for the big screen. Warner Bros. is also producing a Barbie movie, starring Margot Robbie. The film will be directed by Academy Award nominee Greta Gerwig, who also co-wrote the script with her Oscar-nominated husband Noah Baumbach.

The cast for Barbie has turned into a star-studded affair with Ryan Gosling reportedly playing Ken, as well as America Ferrera, Kate McKinnon, Simu Liu, Will Ferrell, Issa Rae, Michael Cera, and Kingsley Ben-Adir in yet-to-be-revealed roles.
