HBO Max unveiled the new trailer for Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore.
Scheduled to hit the streamer on May 30, the film chronicles the untold backstory of Harry Potter’s Professor Dumbledore for the first time. Secrets of Dumbledore stars Jude Law in the title role, Mads Mikkelsen as the new Gellert Grindelwald and Eddie Redmayne as Newt Scamander.
Directed by David Yates, from a screenplay by J.K. Rowling & Steve Klove, the rest of the cast features Dan Fogler, Ezra Miller, and Katherine Waterson, Alison Sudol, Jessica Williams, and Callum Turner.
Released in April, the film earned a worldwide gross of over $380 million against a reported budget of $200 million. Secrets of Dumbledore serves as the third movie in the Fantastic Beasts series, following 2016’s Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and 2018’s Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald.
Last year, Mikkelsen reflected on what he called the “controversial for many people” decision to replace Depp in the role of the dark wizard.
“I mean, obviously, they were going to do the film, and obviously he was not involved any more,” Mikkelsen told the Sunday Times. “But I didn’t have a dog in that fight. And I don’t know what happened [in his private life], and I don’t know if it was fair, him losing the job, but I just knew that the show was going on, and I would’ve loved to have talked to him about it if I had the chance, but I just don’t know him in that sense.”
