Joe Biden is urging lawmakers to act on gun control during a Thursday prime time address from the White House.
“President Biden delivers remarks on the recent tragic mass shootings, and the need for Congress to act to pass commonsense laws to combat the epidemic of gun violence that is taking lives,” his administration announced Thursday.
The speech comes after a series of mass shootings that renewed calls for tighter gun control measures. On May 14, an 18-year-old gunman opened fire in a Buffalo, New York, supermarket, killing 10 people. Less than two weeks later, another 18-year-old gunman entered an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas, where he ultimately shot and killed 19 children and two teachers. On Wednesday, a 45-year-old man opened fire in an Oklahoma hospital, killing four.
