After teasing the idea for over a decade, Black Thought and Danger Mouse have finally got together for an album: Cheat Codes, dropping August 12th.
“An album untethered to any genre, era or trend — uncategorizeable and timeless,” a quote from a press release reads. “It is the sound of the pair observing their own culture and asking questions they still may not have the answers to.”
Kicking things off with “No Gold Teeth” last month, the emcee-producer duo return with a second single – enlisting Joey Bada$$, Russ and Dylan Cartlidge on the slow-burning “Because.”
“I’ve always been a big fan of Black Thought and Danger Mouse,” Joey Bada$$ says. “I think Black Thought is one of the greatest rappers ever, so when they asked me to get on this record, it was a no-brainer. I still remember the first time I heard ‘You Got Me.’ The video was shot on my great-grandmother’s block and I was actually there that day when I was a child. It changed the way I looked at music. I’m very honored to be a part of this track. We’re making history!”
