Google PlayA trainee police officer will no longer be able to join any police force after he was caught faking a positive COVID-19 test so he could get time off work.
Ahmed Anwari drew red lines on a lateral flow test he had taken on December 13, 2020, and sent a photo of the test to his manager after telling them of his positive result, a tribunal has heard.
However, he was soon caught out when he was asked to send a photograph of the result as proof, which “clearly displayed the test had been manually altered with drawn red lines”.
The Lancashire Constabulary officer was then asked to take another COVID-19 test on a Microsoft Teams video call, where he once again failed to provide a positive result.
When asked about the forged test, Anwari revealed that he had faked the results and stated he did it so he could stay at home under the then self-isolation rules. He resigned from the force a day later.
Chief Constable Chris Rowley found that former Officer 2568 Anwari had breached standards of professional behaviour and in doing so had committed gross misconduct. “I find that had Mr Anwari still been a member of Lancashire Constabulary he would have been dismissed,” he said. “Police officers must keep in mind at all times that the public expect them to maintain high standards of professional behaviour.”
Anwari chose not to attend the hearing in Ormskirk and was not legally represented.
