Watch an Exclusive Clip From Upcoming Giannis Antetokounmpo Biopic ‘Rise’ on Disney+

Ahead of the release of the Giannis Antetokounmpo biopic Rise, Complex has shared an exclusive scene from the forthcoming Disney+ sports drama.

The clip features young Giannis and his brother Thanasis—portrayed by real-life brothers Uche and Ral Agada—sharing sneakers at basketball practice as the Antetokounmpo family is not able to afford an extra pair of shoes for the future NBA players.

Set to debut on June 24, Rise tells the story of the hardships the Antetokounmpo family confronted after emigrating from Nigeria to Greece.

The brothers became the first trio of siblings to win an NBA championship. Giannis and Thanasis won a title with the Milwaukee Bucks in 2021, just a year after younger brother Kostas earned a ring with the Lakers in 2020.

Rise stars Ral and Uche Agada Dayo Okeniyi, Yetide Badaki, Manish Dayal, and Taylor Nichols. The film was directed by Akin Omotoso, with a screenplay penned by Arash Amel and production from Bernie Goldmann. 

Giannis serves as an executive producer on the project.

“I am thrilled and honored that Disney+ is bringing my family’s story to people all over the world,” the two-time NBA MVP said. “My hope is that it will inspire those in similar circumstances to keep the faith, stay true to their goals and not to give up on striving for a better life.”
