A 50-year-old man who said he heard his penis “crack” during sex with his wife has been diagnosed with a rare condition known as “eggplant deformity.”
Per a case study in the International Journal of Surgery Case Reports (NSFW warning: the case study includes a picture of the bruised penis), doctors diagnosed the man with the unusual condition after his erect penis experienced blunt trauma during intercourse. His penis was fractured, suffering from swelling, and turned purple as a result of the injury. He added that the incident left him with urethral bleeding, and he was subsequently unable to ejaculate.
According to the study, the man lived in Indonesia and went to the hospital after his penis remained swollen four hours after it happened. He said he felt and heard a “crack,” which caused his erection to instantly subside. When doctors examined his member, they discovered a blood clot that ran from the tip of his scrotum to his ruptured urethra.
In order to treat his injury, doctors needed to slice open his penis in order to repair his urethra and erectile tissue. The blood clot was also drained by cutting open his scrotum. Following the surgery, he was given an “artificial erection” to make sure everything was in working order. He was sent home after five days of rest at the hospital and required to urinate through a catheter that was inserted into his urethra.
In a follow-up appointment with doctors months later, the man said he hadn’t experienced any pain or other issues since.
