Google PlayKith is paying homage to the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man.
The NYC-based brand celebrates the web-slinger’s 60th anniversary with a limited-edition collection for both kids and adults. Apparel pieces include intarsia knit sweaters, 400 GSM cotton fleece hoodies, and a selection of vintage-washed short- and long-sleeve graphic tees. As for accessories, Kith is offering everything from skateboard decks and keychains to puzzles and metal pins—all of which are based on archive artwork from Marvel’s Spider-Man comics.
“I collected comic books growing up, and the one that sparked my passion was a Spider-Man comic I bought in 1990,” Kith founder/CEO Ronnie Fieg said in a statement. “I was really honored that Marvel came to us to launch the 60th anniversary of such an iconic character. As a brand, it’s important to me that we can work on collections like this that are based on my own personal nostalgia. In that way we speak to both ends of the spectrum – the older customer, like me, as well as the younger generation who love and relate to similar things.”
In support of the collaboration, Marvel has created a special comic book that follows Spider-Man as he attempts to protect NYC from Doctor Octopus and his robot army. The original story also includes appearances by Feig as well as multiple Marvel icons, such as Iron Man and Tinkerer. The comic book was written by Anthony Piper, with illustration by Julian Shaw, and colors by Fabio Laporini and Fabio D’Auria.
The Kith x Spider-Man anniversary collection will drop at a 11 a.m. ET Friday at Kith.com. It’ll also be available at Kith locations in Miami, Los Angeles, Hawaii, Paris, Tokyo, and Aspen as well as select retailers, like Selfridges, Bergdorf Goodman and Hirshleifers. Each purchase of an adult item will come with a copy of the Kith x Spider-Man comic.
Kith will also host a three-day pop-up experience in Queens, where fans can shop the collection and a curated batch of old-school Spider-Man memorabilia. The Marvel x Kith Queens Convenience Pop-Up—located at Horace Harding Expy, Oakland Gardens, NY 11364—will open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. between Friday at Sunday.
