Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese Teaming for 7th Time With Apple Drama ‘The Wager’

Martin Scorsese will again be directing Leonardo DiCaprio in another can’t-miss drama, this time taking viewers back to 1742 with an adaptation of Killers of the Flower Moon author David Grann’s upcoming book The Wager: A Tale of Shipwreck, Mutiny, and Murder.

Friday, the Hollywood Reporter came through with an exclusive piece revealing Scorsese, 79, is indeed attached as director, while 47-year-old DiCaprio will star. Meanwhile, Apple Original Films—which is also among those behind Scorsese and DiCaprio’s upcoming Killers of the Flower Moon adaptation—has bagged the book rights.

In fact, much of the same team from the anticipated Killers adaptation is also set to bring The Wager to the screen, including Imperative Entertainment, as well as production houses founded by Scorsese and DiCaprio, the latter of whom runs Appian Way with Jennifer Davisson.

A source has confirmed to Complex the details of Friday’s THR report. Additional information, however, has not been shared. Grann’s book, meanwhile, is set to be released on April 18, 2023. See a full synopsis here.

Leo and Scorsese’s existing collaborations are Gangs of New York, The Aviator, The Departed, Shutter Island, and The Wolf of Wall Street. As for Killers of the Flower Moon, which also stars many-time Scorsese actor Robert De Niro and Lily Gladstone, an official release date has not been announced. A first-look image of the 1920s Oklahoma-set murder drama, seen below, has been making the rounds for some time.

reported this week that Scorsese and company were instead angling for a Cannes Film Festival premiere next May, followed by a theatrical rollout with Paramount.
