A Georgia college student died over the weekend after being struck by a plane propeller on a date.

Per a report from regional Macon outlet The Telegraph, 21-year-old Sani Aliyu of Georgia Southern University had rented a Cessna for a date with an unnamed young woman on Sunday. Once the plane returned to the Statesboro-Bulloch County Airport following its trip to Savannah, the woman is said to have exited the plane and walked toward the back.

Aliyu, meanwhile, exited the plane and walked toward the front, at which point he was hit in the head by the propeller and killed “instantly.” Although two other people were also on the plane at the time, no one else was hurt in the incident.

When reached by Complex for comment on Wednesday morning, a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) rep confirmed that the agency would be working with the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) on the resulting investigation into the student’s death.

“A single-engine Cessna 172 with four people on board landed without incident at Statesboro-Bulloch County Airport in Statesboro, Ga., around 10:35 p.m. local time Sunday,” the FAA rep told Complex in an email. “After the plane taxied to the ramp area, a passenger got out and was struck by the propeller. “The FAA and NTSB will investigate. The NTSB will be in charge of the investigation and will provide all updates. Neither agency identifies people involved in aircraft accidents.”

Complex has also reached out to the Bulloch County Coroner’s Office, the Bulloch County Sheriff’s Office, and the NTSB for additional comment. This story may be updated.
