A man remains in a critical but stable condition after being shot by a police officer during a house search on the outskirts of Bristol, Sky News reports.
The raid took place on Wick Road in the village of Wick St. Lawrence on Monday morning, as part of an investigation into alleged firearms offences.
According to Avon and Somerset police, the man, who is said to be in his 30s, was assaulted by armed officers and later taken to Southmead hospital, where his next of kin was informed.
“We understand the local community will be shocked and people will want to know what happened,” Chief Insp O’Loughlin said. “Our thoughts are with the man and his family as he continues to receive treatment at hospital.”
An investigation launched by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) has said that it will look into the events surrounding the incident.
A statement from the IOPC reads: “After being informed of the incident by Avon and Somerset Police, we sent investigators to the scene and to the post-incident procedure, to begin our enquiries and start gathering evidence.”
