Woman Accused of Pushing 3-Year-Old Onto Train Tracks in Oregon

An Oregon woman is accused of pushing a 3-year-old child off a platform and onto the train tracks in an unprovoked attack last week. 

Breanna Workman, 32, has been charged with first-degree attempted assault, third-degree assault, interfering with public transportation, second-degree disorderly conduct, and recklessly endangering another person, according to a press release from the Multnomah County District Attorney. 

Surveillance footage shows a person, believed to be Workman, get up from a bench and push the toddler in the presence of several passengers as they wait for the train to arrive. The incident occurred Wednesday night at the Gateway Transit Center of the Metropolitan Area Express, or MAX, train service in Northeast Portland. 

The child was quickly rescued after landing face-first on the metal rail and rocks. The toddler reportedly sustained a small red mark on their forehead from the fall, as well as a severe headache. Officials said no contact was made between Workman and the victim prior to the incident. 

In court records obtained by Oregon Live, Workman is listed as a homeless person. The Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office is asking that she remain in custody and be held without bail.
