The trailer for Evil Dead Rise has arrived.

The fifth entry in the franchise is written and directed by Lee Cronin, who made his directorial debut with 2019’s The Hole in the Ground. It tells the story of Beth (Lily Sullivan), who goes on a road trip to visit her older sister Ellie (Alyssa Sutherland) and her three children in Los Angeles, only to fight for their lives after discovering a mysterious book that summons the Deadites, according to Variety.

Bruce Campbell, who played Ash Williams in the Sam Raimi-created films and Starz series Ash vs Evil Dead, delivered a message on Twitter, ahead of the release of the official trailer. Even though he does not star in Evil Dead Rise, Campbell serves as a producer. “I guess you could say I have a hand in it,” he said, a nod for those who have seen the previous films.

“I’ve seen the movie in all of its glory and, in case you’re wondering, yes, it is amazing, and yes, it is the scariest one yet,” Campbell said.

The cast includes Mia Challis, Jayden Daniels, Morgan Davies, Gabrielle Echols, Nell Fisher, Billy Reynolds-McCarthy, and Tai Wano. The franchise last hit the big screen with the 2013 reboot creatively titled Evil Dead.

Rise was originally destined for an HBO Max release, but got moved to the big screen as part of a decision from Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav to “fully embrace theatrical.” It will be in cinemas on April 21, 2023.
