One person has died and two others were injured after a Denny’s restaurant sign fell on their car in Elizabethtown, Kentucky, per KY3.

According to authorities at the Elizabethtown Police Department, the sign hit a car that was occupied by three individuals at the restaurant’s parking lot on Thursday (Jan. 19). The people inside have been identified as three adults, including a 72-year-old woman who was taken to a nearby hospital but later died of her injuries.

“I’ve never seen anything like this,” said Elizabethtown police spokesperson Chris Denham. “It’s certainly very windy, and I’m certain that was a factor and involved in this.” As eyewitnesses told WAVE, it appeared as though high winds caused the sign to fall. The weather report from the time indicated that winds were as high as 50 mph in the region.

Authorities had to extract the three people from the vehicle, and the two injured were taken to Baptist Health Hardin hospital with unspecified injuries. The Elizabethtown Police Department and the City of Elizabethtown’s Planning Department are investigating the incident.

The United States has been hit by heavy weather conditions throughout the past few weeks, and the deadly blizzard that swept through Buffalo, New York last month claimed the lives of at least 62 people. Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown said that the storm was “probably worse than anything that this city has seen in over 50 years.” The figure continued to climb as authorities recovered bodies in vehicles and under snowbanks across the city of Buffalo.
