The awards season comes fully into focus this morning with the unveiling of the 2023 Oscar nominations.

As the Academy revealed earlier this month, 301 feature films were eligible for recognition this year. For eligibility to apply, a feature film must have opened in what’s defined as a “commercial motion picture theater” in at least one of the six following metro areas: Los Angeles County, the City of New York, the Bay Area, Chicago, Miami, and/or Atlanta. The window for such showings, meanwhile, was Jan. 1 through Dec. 1 of last year. Furthermore, eligible films are required to have had a minimum run of seven consecutive days in the same theater.

This year’s nominations arrive two weeks after the broadcast return of the Golden Globes, with this year’s ceremony having been hosted by Jerrod Carmichael. Taking home the award for Best Motion Picture – Drama was Steven Spielberg’s semi-autobiographical The Fabelmans, which has garnered widespread (and well-earned) acclaim since its release. Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, meanwhile, went to Martin McDonagh’s The Banshees of Inisherin.

Other big winners of the night included Michelle Yeoh and Ke Huy Quan, who were both honored for their performances in the Daniels’ A24 smash Everything Everywhere All at Once.

Voting for the 95th Academy Awards came to an end on Jan. 17. The ceremony itself will take place at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood on Mar. 12.

Below, see the full list of nominees. Up top, revisit the official announcement livestream, complete with hosts Riz Ahmed and Allison Williams.
