According to the Gun Violence Archive, there have been more mass shootings in 2023 than days.

In the first ten days of April alone, there have been at least 15 documented mass shootings. Per the archive’s definition, a mass shooting is when four or more victims are shot or killed. The deadliest shooting was the Monterey Park, California shooting in January, in which a single perpetrator killed 11 people and then himself. A motive for the shooting has not been established.

The most recent is the Old National Bank shooting in Louisville, Kentucky, which saw four victims dead and eight injured on Monday, April 10. “Total deceased is 5,” police said in an update shared on Twitter. Other major shootings that happened in April include ones in Orlando, Florida, Houston, Texas, and Kansas City. Last month there was also a shooting outside of Yo Gotti’s restaurant in Memphis. Two dead and at least five were injured in the shooting.

The archive tracked over 647 mass shootings in 2022, and 690 in 2021. However, at this time last year, the country experienced 126 mass shootings. The Gun Violence Archive is a non-profit corporation that aims to provide accurate information regarding gun violence across the United States. While it is not considered to be an advocacy group, the organization does a lot to document just how prevalent shootings are throughout the country. Mass shootings do not make up the majority of gun violence, but the effect they have is perhaps more significant than isolated attacks.
