A funeral home in Washington, D.C. was the site of a shooting on Tuesday.
The incident happened just before 12:30 p.m. at Stewart Funeral Home in Northeast Washington, according to the New York Post. One man was killed in the gunfire and three more were wounded in what police are calling a “targeted” attack. The man died at the scene and the others were transported to a local hospital with reportedly non-life-threatening injuries.
Family and friends were grieving over the death of a murder victim who had died in a fatal shooting in late March.
“It’s unfortunate that someone would be so brazen to do such an act, let alone at a funeral. How low can you be of a human being to target other people at a funeral?” DC Police Chief Robert Contee said during a news conference.
The family of the man who was being laid to rest had requested that a cop be present nearby the funeral home, which is customary for homicide victims.
It’s unclear why the shooter opened fire on the four victims, who, at the time of the shooting, were walking near a sidewalk. Police say that a green vehicle was seen driving away following the incident. Investigators added that it doesn’t look like any of them shot back at the suspect. Authorities haven’t apprehended any suspects in connection with the shooting but have asked local residents to keep an eye out for the aforementioned vehicle.
