Yahya Abdul-Mateen II Suggests He’s Playing Morpheus in ‘The Matrix Resurrections’ and Fans Are Losing It

With the arrival of the first trailer for The Matrix: Resurrections, star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II sent fans into a frenzy with one simple post.

Directed by Lana Wachowski, the trailer sees the return of Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss, but also the introduction of Yahya Abdul-Mateen II’s character. Not much is known about the role he plays, but with the look of his character and the absence of original Morpheus actor Laurence Fishburne, some fans believe they have a good idea, which Abdul-Mateen II basically confirmed.

Alongside a screenshot of himself in the film shared on Instagram, Abdul-Mateen II has either confirmed the speculation, or added more fuel to the fire. “MORPHEUS,” he wrote alongside the image.

While fans were already excited about the Candyman and Aquaman actor making an appearance in the highly anticipated film, the element of Morpheus possibly showing up in a new form has some anticipating its release even more. It’s worth noting that Laurence Fishburne noted he was not asked to return for the fourth film, for undisclosed reasons, but it could be that his character was reincarnated as a younger version. Whatever the case, the first trailer for Resurrections has given fans plenty to talk about.

It’s also worth noting that Morpheus is just the lastest in a string of iconic characters Abdul-Mateen II, which include his Dr. Manhattan in Watchmen, and Black Manta in the Aquaman franchise. If there’s a hotter actor in Hollywood right now, we haven’t seen him.

Check out reactions to and appreciation for Yahya Abdul-Mateen II in the trailer below.
