Adam Sandler Tells ‘Pathetic’ Story About How He Got a Black Eye

Adam Sandler was quick to address the obvious black eye on his face when he appeared on The Tonight Show recently, admitting that it wasn’t that great a story.

“I had an accident everybody, everything is alright but I wish it was a good story, it’s pathetic,” Sandler said. 

He went on to explain that whoever had made the bed one night had aggressively tucked in the sheets, which made Sandler feel claustrophobic. But when he kicked his leg out from the sheets to untuck them, he had forgotten his phone was on his lap, and it flung up and hit him in the eye.

“So I was bleeding, terribly. It was pitch black in the room and I feel wetness and I go, ‘Yes.’ I trick myself and I go, ‘Those are probably just thick tears,’” he said. “I didn’t wanna get up, you know because I was tired and I was like, ‘Ah we’ll fix that later.’ Then I think I took a pillow and put it on it to stop the bleeding and when I woke up, it was horrible.”

The Tonight Show wasn’t the first talk show to get a glimpse at Sandler’s bruised eye. The 55-year-old star first debuted injury during an interview on Good Morning America on Monday.

“There is nothing cool about this,” he said. “It looks so cool. And I’m on the streets of New York, I see people going, ‘Oh, OK. He likes to fight, that guy.’ I’m like, ‘It was a bed accident.’”

The black eye isn’t the only snafu the SNL legend has experienced recently. Sander is currently in the midst of promoting his upcoming Netflix film Hustle, but told Jimmy Fallon that another bizarre mishap occurred while they were filming in Spain.

“When I went there, I was swimming in the Mediterranean,” Sandler said. “It’s very salty, the sea over there. So you float, you don’t even have to try and tread water you just float. So I’m floating around, having a fun time floating. Sand Man just floating around. I look up and I see a beach so I start floating closer to the beach and everybody’s nude.”

He said the confidence of the nude beach dwellers inspired him to shed his own clothing as well, and he removed his swim trunks in solidarity. He then backed out at the last minute because he didn’t want anyone to snap his photo, but because of the salty water, certain appendages had begun floating to the surface, which attracted the attention of local seagulls.

“So they started coming at me, I gave it to ‘em,” Sandler said. “I was a guest in their country I was like you have a good time.”
